Renfe to build a maintenance depot at Aranjuez

It will allocate 69 million euros to its construction and will facilitate the reception of the new suburban trains purchased from Alstom and Stadler.

Renfe has awarded Ineco the construction project for a new maintenance depot in the town of Aranjuez, Madrid. Intended for the maintenance of suburban trains, it will facilitate the fine-tuning of the new trains acquired from Alstom and Stadler.

The construction of the workshop will involve an investment of more than 69 million euros. It will be responsible for first-level preventive and corrective maintenance, including operations to check safety elements, cleaning, and repairs of breakdowns or, also, acts of vandalism.

Given its location at the southern end of the C-3 line (El Escorial-Chamartín-Aranjuez), it will be able to service both the trains on that line and those used in the rest of the hub.

The facilities of the future centre will have three 200-metre maintenance posts on conventional gauge, stabling and operational tracks, a lathe track, a dedicated washing track and a track for loading and unloading trains.

This new workshop will join the 98 centres that Renfe Ingeniería y Mantenimiento has throughout Spain. These centres carry out the maintenance of a thousand trains and some 300 heavy maintenance operations a year.
