Iryo, the Spanish high-speed rail operator owned by Trenitalia, Globalvia and Air Nostrum shareholders, has announced the expansion of its Iryo Conecta programme to reach more than 50 new destinations. Multimodal tickets with 400 travel options will be available through the operator’s website and app from the end of June, according to the company.

The expansion of destinations is possible thanks to the new agreements signed with Vectalia and the shipping company GNV (Grandi Navi Veloci).

The alliance with Vectalia will allow iryo to reach cities on the Alicante coast, such as Santa Pola and Gran Alacant. Moreover, during the summer, additional options will be made available to the interior of the province.

For its part, GNV will allow iryo to sell train and ferry connections, reaching the islands of Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca from next July.

Through the iryo conecta brand, the company offers the possibility of combining different means of transport, including train, bus, boat and plane. With the convenience of making a single purchase to travel by all of them.

To carry out the sale of tickets from various operators and means of transport, iryo has teamed up with the Omio platform, which acts as a technological partner.

Iryo Conecta, the train as the backbone of multimodality for travelling the world

In addition, since the start of this programme, announced at FITUR 2024, the operator has agreements with AVIS, Imbric and Air Europa to offer car rental services, taxi and parking reservations, and combined train and air travel.

From now on, the company offers the following services

  • Iryo Connects Train. Combines travel on Iryo trains with Spanish and international regional trains.
  • Iryo Conecta Cercanías. The equivalent of Renfe’s Combined Cercanías, it will make it possible to travel on Cercanías or Rodalies trains at the origin up to 4 hours before departure and at the destination up to 4 hours after arrival.
  • Iryo Conecta Plane. With a single ticket you can combine Iryo trains with planes through interline agreements. At the moment, the only airline that is part of this initiative is Air Europa, with which the agreement was signed in June 2023.
  • Iryo Connects Taxi and Parking. Combining train journeys with taxi or parking services at stations will be very simple with this option, which will allow all services to be paid for in a single purchase. To offer taxis, the operator has teamed up with Imbric, an aggregator of this means of transport.
  • Iryo Conecta Rental car. The company has reached an exclusive agreement with the car rental company AVIS. Through this agreement, those who belong to the “Club YO” will have a 15% discount on car rentals from this company along with a cash-back of 2% of each rental.

All these efforts are aimed, says the operator, at placing the train as the backbone of a new mobility model in which the customer and his needs are placed at the centre, extending the network of destinations and supporting the reduction of emissions in transport.

“Since the beginning of its project, iryo has had a clear mission: to revolutionise mobility on the Iberian Peninsula and in Europe by offering the best travel experience. Under this premise, we have designed the best trains on the market, combining quality, speed and comfort,” said Simone Gorini, CEO and General Manager of iryo.
